Default found a title in my name,..

I looked through the bmv records and apparently I may have had a corvette titled to me in 96, as the record is still there it is unlikely that it got a new title or switched owners..

vin 1Z37U8K430371

This is a corvette vin correct?..

not sure what to make of it really, is there a way to find the car?..

Thanks.

Ask the BMV. They have all the records. If it's titled in your name (NOT someone else with the same name... ), then they should be willing to help you find it.

Nope. There are no U characters in C3s VINs and no K for the plant code. What you've run across is not correct for a 1978 Corvette VIN.

It's probably a case of similar names. A ticket agent at Delta Air Lines did a search years ago for my frequent flyer miles number(I have an unusual middle name), and hundreds of exact matches were found in their data base.

Something is screwed up with that VIN!

The "1" indicates Chevrolet, the "Z" would normally indicate a Corvette, and "37" is the designation for a 2 door sport coupe body, but the rest of the VIN does not fit for a Corvette.

The "U" is a 305 (145hp), "8" is the 1978 model year, "K" is the Leeds MO assembly plant, and 430371 is the build sequence number. The "U" and "K" cannot be a Corvette. No 78 Corvettes were ever built with a 305, they were all 350's. While the Leeds, MO assembly plant built Malibu's, Monte Carlo's and El Camino's, but not Corvettes.

The second digit would be a "T" for a Malibu, an "H" for a Monte Carlo and a "W" for an El Camino or Malibu wagon.

I'm guessing that the VIN belongs to a 305 powered, 78 Monte Carlo or 2 door Malibu, and that someone at Motor Vehicles, typed a "Z" in to the VIN by mistake?

I think gbvette is correct. My vin had the z changed to an x when it was first plated. It can happen - especially in the days before computers.

that makes sense, I had a 78 monte carlo around that time. I was pretty confused about the numbers and couldn't find much information except the corvette vin info.. Thanks
