After a long harsh winter , yesterday was finally the day to take her on a nice run...
So all week I concentrated on putting the dash back together after my gauge cluster and bezel semi restoration over the winter.
She fired right up to a sweet roar, let her run for about 15 mins in the driveway to warm up nice while cleaning up the garage.
To my dismay, a large... Very large puddle of oil was now forming under the car. I shut it down, looked underneath and was extremely puzzled to see the oil flowing out from around the drain plug in the floor.
Yes ... The floor!
Somehow in my haste apparently I left off the line to the oil pressure gauge.....
Rookie mistake I know, now a rookie with a major mess
The first trip out is officially postponed ... I'm an idiot!!!!
You are not an idiot. An idiot would have just watched the oil drip out completely with the car running and wait for a huge clanky boom clank clank sputter pzzzzzzzzzt followed by silence.
Rookie or veteran we all make mistakes. We're only human (although sometimes we don't act like it). Good news is it happened in the driveway not the highway so dealing with the mess is much better than the other alternative. In an ideal world "live and learn".
Better a little oil on the garage/driveway floor than all over the interior of the car when the small line to the oil gauge is snapped.........Don't ask

Actually, I think if you re-read the OP post....that is exactly what happened because he forgot to attach the oil gauge line
