I really don't have an issue jumping around from Fox 1 to Fox 2 to Nat Geo to NBC Sports to Esquire to Fox Business to see the Barrett-Jackson and Mecum auctions these days, but am I right in thinking there's nowhere near the coverage now?
Spotty hours for both the Barrett Palm Beach and Mecum Houston events this weekend. In the past, Mecum at least would replay the day's event coverage so you would have a chance to see it if you missed. Nothing like that by either now. I was out most of the day and missed it all.
I understood the moves as having to be advantageous for the auction houses, but I have to think less coverage is not as good, regardless of being on a network less people have?
There were quite a few nice corvettes on the Mecum auction, especially towards the end of the scheduled coverage around 4pm eastern
The Bunky Knudson 63 coupe, the "McNamara" white 67 coupe with only 2100 miles on it went for over 700,000 dollars to a guy who was talking to another guy on the cell phone. I kept going back and forth from Mecum to BJ to see if I could see if Rick Hendrick was on the other end of that phone conversation.
It was a little bit of a chore going from Discovery to Fox1 to National Geographic channel, but the announcers did try to make everyone aware of when and where the coverage would be.
Speaking of announcers, I even missed Mike Joy on the BJ auction, because of his commitment to the Nascar race in Darlington, but he'll probably be back for BJ on Sunday.
I even joined the Mecum info net site so I could get a little more coverage streamed live to my IPad, supposed to be another big Mecum motorcycle auction on Sunday.
All in all,I think you may be right, there was less coverage than previous years, but it did get my fill, plus it was the first nice weekend we've had on the east coast in quite awhile, it felt good to be outside for awhile, I almost had the motivation to uncover the Corvette (soon...)
Because of the random hours and the way coverage is split up these days between channels I've never watched before, if I find it at all it's by pure luck. I doubt that I'm the only one. Viewership is easy to track now that so many people have satellite TV, so they have probably measured a drop in ratings. It's frustrating for me, but ultimately it's really their loss if folks aren't watching. I spend a lot more time on The Knitting Network now.
Mecum auctions were much better on Velocity!
I do not like jumping around to different channels and the internet.
Also my Comcast HD DVR box won't record as a series of new episodes? I have to keep setting it up to record.
