I just ordered a new center section from Paragon as my chrome is a little ratty. My insulators aren't much better but at least they're hidden. Has anyone tried the fiberglass insulators from Paragon?
The original insulators were made exactly as the Paragon insulators.. They were a fiberglass construction that was prone to break during shipment to the dealers. The part was originally made by Kuhlman tool and die in Oak. City, Ok and had the marking of a Circle with KD in the middle.. Long story on how I know this... but Paragon snatched this part up almost as soon as it discontinued. This same company made multiple Corvette parts for GM including the lower console molding for the 58-62 cars, the center dash radio screen for the 63-67 cars and the 65-66 big block hood grilles..
Interesting. I never would have guessed it to be fiberglass. Maybe that's why they are so brittle. Cook fiberglass for a couple of decades and you wouldn't expect otherwise.
I can imagine that these wouldn't ship well. A lot of thin corners and edges.
Thanks for the tip. They are pretty expensive for what they are and I'd want it o pretty close o the original if I fork over that kind of money.
Hi,
I don't think the originals have very much resin in them. They are very light in weight for their size and the lack of resin makes them very fragile.

Alan
It appears to me the originals were bare fiberglass…. not painted.
