I like the idea of subtle mods, my 69 is done in that way, sidepipes, other things that can be undone later. My car will never be NCRS, but I like that it is somewhat original looking unlike my Camaro that has more braided steel line and gauges than the Space Shuttle...

That should help give a better idea of the shape of the car.
Hmmmmmm.........a few mods wouldn't hurt that much!

Its actually not in THAT bad of shape. I think subtle mods and a refreshed interior (clean, repaint parts that are still good; replace broken, brittle pieces) would be good for it.
Some touch up paint (if not a full respray) with new decals and redo all of the weatherstripping.
If you decide to swap out radios, please don't cut up the harness.....that's one of my peeves and it'll still be intact if you ever decide to put the stock radio back in.
Also make sure the mechanicals all work as intended.

Those are nice. But not $2000.00 nice. Can get a set of brand new knockoffs for that which are cool too BTW.

The radio you have in there right now should be perfect for better tunes. I love those old Alpine radios. I have on in my '81 and with an amp and two 6x9s and a 10'' sub I can hear it over my sidepipes on the highway at only 1/4 volume.

Mod it if you want to drive it and go original if you want to show it. We went the mod route with our CE because we like to travel - a lot - so we modded it - a lot. Have fun - it's your car.

Personally, I would do a mild build to the original engine. Maybe a nice set of heads, cam, headers, exhaust, and the Renegade intake along with a computer tune. Keep everything else in stock trim.

I would modify as you desire to get the type of car you'll both really enjoy owning and driving. You own the car, you're not spending the money on it for someone else. Let's be honest here... a totally stock '82 is okay, but a modified '82 will look, feel and drive a lot better.

There is also someone (I can't remember his name) that restores CE steering wheels.....hopefully someone will chime in with his name.
That is one beautiful car. Before looking at the pictures the car was 'ours' now after looking at your pictures, I am calling the car "Mine!"
Guess I have to share...

Thank you for the link to find parts. That steering wheel is driving me crazy. I called my go-to interior guy only to get told to buy a new steering wheel. No, I can't just go buy a 'new' one. Like you, I hope the name of the guy who restores them gets forwarded to us so we can get it done.

Couple questions for everyone.
1- We are getting ready to start prepping the body for paint. What do you think about painting the fades instead of using decals? It would definitely get rid of any cracking, peeling, fading later. On the flip side would that take away from the originality?

2. Looking at different pictures of CEs none seem to have the same pinstriping. I have seen some with a little and some with a LOT. Anyone have a good source for what was orginal?

Thanks! Already you all have made this project better

I like Alpine as well, unfortunately it is not working that well. We are discussing finding an original radio and setting up a remote one to use, or putting in a new one that doesn't require any type of cutting.

Keep in mind this is just my opinion. While I think the CE is a gorgeous car, I highly doubt from a value standpoint people will care that much about the cross-fire engine or any other running gear part for that matter on the car. Just save all the old parts provided I am wrong
