I searched the forums and also looked in my AIM, but I'm not finding an answer to my questions.
First - when assembling the regulator, specifically - putting the housing assembly on, should there be grease inside of this? There was old, VERY dried out grease packed inside of it when I disassembled, but wasn't sure if this was done by a previous owner, or at the factory.
And B) One of my windows is very easy to push down. Literally, from the outside you can push it down from a fully closed position by using your fingers. Any advice on what might cause this? Seems odd that it would be too easy and not the opposite
Are these manual windows? If so, there is a one-way type of torque limiter inside the window crank. When you crank it up, it helps to hold the window up and not let it fall back down. It's a pressed sealed unit, so I don't know exactly what is inside. I was just cleaning mine up tonight.
From the factory there was grease everywhere! It all has dried up and turned hard and gums everything up. In the service schedule, there is actually regular intervals for greasing the window assembly. All the guide where the roller as need to be greased. The regulator gear and crank assembly is greased and anything and everything that moves should be cleaned , lubed or greased.
I never did find much for specs on grease other than to use "chassis grease", so I'm using the best bearing grease I can find.
Thanks for the response. Sorry, I should have put that information in the original post - Yes, it does have manual windows.
What you said, make sense - I'm having issues with the window crank as well. It doesn't want to stay engaged on the shaft, so it just spins unless I push it inward and then roll the window up or down. I'll pull the door panel back off and see what I can figure out.
AdamMeh, You do not need to pull off the door panel. The splines on the pot metal window cranks strip out with age (usage). You need to buy a new window crank, because yours has gotten cranky! Lou.
Thanks for your response. I actually have new window cranks, but the drivers side shaft has play in it allowing it to move in and out, which is keeping the crank from locking in place, so I'm thinking I may need to dig deeper to fix that issue.
Here is what you will find just inside the door panel. You will not have to remove the regulator that I show in these photos. The shaft can be purchased, although I have heard the repop parts don't hold up.
Just went through this myself. I bought repop cranks and they would not match the splines correctly and windows only went up when pushing hard against the door panel. I then bought original door handles on Ebay and they did the same thing even after I replaced the window crank shafts. What I found was someone had removed both regulators at one point and when they were put back on,the 3 bolts were only through the holes and not connected to the regulator. This made everything loose when crank and door panel were put back on.. I took a pair of pliers to the spring in center of door- pulled against it while putting the 3 bolts back in and they pulled everything in tight and now everything works great . Spent hours working on these after putting in new door glass all for a simple fix.. Hope this helps Paul

Paul, I'll be putting mine back together soon. I'll be sure to get them bolted down correctly so I don't have the same issue. Thanks for the info.
