Default 1980 engine rebuild question

Hello all. I am not a frequent contributor here but often look through the posts because the info is unbelievable so I thought I would throw this out there. I've had a 1980 L82 for about 10 years now and have always wanted to rebuild or replace the engine and have the trans looked over while everythings out. Unfortunately I should be classified as the guy that has never done any serious work like this on cars, let alone a complicated vehicle like the 80. Would anyone have any recommendations for reputable shops that can do this type of work in the Rhode Island area?

cant help you with any shops but,,,,,have you any buddys that wrench ?do you have a corvette club near by.if you need a motor a crate motor is not hard to put in .but you need a little direction and tools .a shop is expensive .make some friends.talk to people at car shows.or offer a plane ticket to guys on the forum with never empty beer coolers.

We are currently having our engine rebuilt locally here in Mass,I feel real comfortable with this shop, The guy I'm dealing with just sold his 79 l82, we are not too far over the line, not sure what part of RI you are in, if you look up one of my posts I just recently asked about engine advice and another member was going to recommend a shop in Uxbridge which is closer to RI. Anyway if any of this helps message me or reply here. Cost wise we are going to be around the cost of a crate engine .

Are you having a problem with the car or just want to redo the motor and tranny. How many miles are on the car?

No problems really. Blows a little smoke at start up and runs rough at initial start up but once warmed out she,s pretty smooth. It's got 93000 on it and I think it's time for a redo with some extra power. It's in the shop now. I,m looking at arOund 5k with some extra bucks for the tranny. Once that's done I'm going to replace carpets and weather stripping. Can't wait till it's finished.

buy a crate motor .have them put it in .for 5 000 you can get a good hp motor and pay for the labor to put it in.its cheaper to buy a crate motor unless you can do a lot of the work your self .
