Hi c,
There's a couple of things you can do.
Make sure the clips are on correctly. They have an up-side and down-side.
The clips can be tapped into place from the back side if the trim piece is held securely in place.
Or you can put the clips in place first and lay a piece of tape across the door just at the 'rise' to protect the paint as you push the trim onto the clips.
