The PO to my Vette said he had his mechanic do all the work on the car (which really wasn't much), but after I drove it home (750 miles), a buddy of mine and I were checking things out and decided to check the front wheel bearings, well there were spotless - NO FRICKEN GREASE! there were a couple of other small bubba things as well but that blew my mind that a "mechanic" would install wheel bearings and not pack them

In many ways, a mechanic can be worse. At some point in the past, my car must have been owned or "refurbished" by a mechanic. Things were repaired or replaced with no thought towards doing it correctly but simply to make it work. I just discover the other day that my center gauge cluster was from a different year. You don't find that item on too many prepurchse checklists
(Ok, it's a freakshow: So far-78 truck engine, front clip, doors & interior...)
