I'm getting ready to pull my handle. Is the hole in the plastic silder big enough to pull over the handle, or does it have to be cut? If it has to be cut, what to do on reinstallation? thanks
The replacement slider on my 73 had a slit in it from the hole outward toward the edge. Have to use it as the hole is not big enough to slide over the handle.
Fran
Hi B,
73 is right; it needs a slit.
Also the slide has a front and back… the shape of the opening in the slide matches the shape of the chrome lever. Rounded end to the rear.

Alan

I had this same concern a few years ago when I was disassembling my '70. When I removed the parking brake handle, I found that the slider already had a slit in it. I didn't look closely, but thought the slit was factory original.
Was I wrong? Without a slit, how would they get it over the grip?
Hi 70Y,
IF the e-brake handle is loose from the ratchet mechanism the slide could be slipped on from the bottom.
But there's no way to do it with the handle in place, without a slit.
If you're careful just where you make the slit it really becomes almost impossible to see when the slide is in the track.
That's why some people don't even realize they're slit.

Mine does not have a slit in it. I removed the black plastic grip and slipped it over the top. (Yes, I know there are some who think the grip won`t come off.) I`d had this handle apart a couple times, in fact it is the best parts of two different assemblies, so it came apart fairly easy.

Is that the 'factory original' or a repro replacement?
