It depends on your area of the country. In my part of NC, cars have to have a visual inspection for 81's (I have an 80 so I assume the same applies for an 81) but no sniffer test. Everything has to be there whether it works or not. Supposedly. At age 35 model years, there is no inspection requirement for smog controls, just the usual lights, wipers, and horn stuff. Check with an inspection station in your area or call the state DMV for your requirements.

So you will not require a smog testing. If you register it as a antique you will not be required a yearly inspection.
