Ok, so.... I'm going to a side exhuast (not side pipes). 1 7/8 shorty headers, 2.5" true dual no muffler
I found these tips on the inter web and I really like the look, they are going right in front if the rear tire, but I'm going to mount them flush so it doesn't stick out like it does in the picture.
More clearance than side pipes. These tips are only 2" tall x 9" wide. And really it shouldn't be but a 1" lower than the original exhuast. According to my calculation.
I'm not running the exhuast under frame, it's still going thru the frame and then makes a bend to the side. When I get my car back from getting the new motor in and exhuast done I will take pics
The exhaust tips are 9" deep also. I'm going to bend the 2.5" adaptor part of the tip slightly up, so that I can keep the main pipes snug to the bottom of the car. I'll take some pics as soon as I get the car back. Hopefully in a few days or by the weekend
My side exhaust doesn't hang any lower than the frame because it runs along side of it, If you do this, your pipe will hang down almost 3'' under the frame if you use 2.5'' pipes
EDIT: is see what you are trying to do now. as long as you can bend the tip like you want and it's long enough, it should work
Sidepipes cross at a higher level, below the frame before the frame drops down to run along the rocker area. Those tips seem to have a low profile, so they will hang below the frame, but not as bad as round exhaust pipes.
I could be wrong, but looks like they will be fine for a stock engine, but may be very restrictive for high HP use.
