Hi I have a 1976 corvette. My corvette used to start but was inconsistent in turning over. Now the engine wont turn start.
I bought a new starter, battery, and ignition box.
I dont think that the starter is engaging. I think it may be my neutral safety switch. Because when I have my shifter cable disconnected from it I can shift the transmission well and easily. But when connected I have trouble getting to my low gears and also can slip the out of park without pressing the button. Any recomendations would be great! Having a lot of trouble and don't know why I can the the electrical sorted out
Lift the console plate and check to see if anything is interfering with the cable or if you need to adjust it. I can't remember where the adjustment is on one of these as it has been a long time since I didn anything with an automatic C3. Also, there is a cable that goes to the steering column in front of the firewall. this is for the ignition switch to lock the transmission in park. It could be hanging up and need oil to loosen it or it could be out of adjustment, too.
Remember, unless they have been replaced, they are 38 years old and probably could use a bit of lubrication.
