Hey guys,
I have 1972 454 4 speed corvette, lately here in Texas heat, it has trouble starting after its been driven. I had a friend come over and look at it for me and he said the carburetor was way too hot way after the engine was turned off, he said the bubbles in the fuel filter was not a good sign as well as the fuel was still seeping into the carb, Im not much of a mechanic but I am just asking your advice on this. It has a Strret Dominator Intake manifold with a Holley 750 double pumper, I am thinking of scrapping both items and find something that is more reliable..any suggestions would be appreciated and thank you in advance.
Does that manifold have heat riser/crossover? If so, you ought to be able to block off the exhaust. Do you have enough hood clearance to add an insulating shield under the carb. Usually about 3/8" thick, considering the metal heat shield and the associated gaskets. Chin spoiler in place? Just was a thread on here about a bad factory fan clutch thermostat causing a car to run hot at cruise.
Retarded timing, lean mixture and lack of vacuum advance can have a big effect on how hot the engine runs.
