Need advice. I bought an original Goodyear F70 x 15 tire from 70 and have it mounted to an original 70 vette rally wheel. I CANNOT get this spare to fit inside my spare tire well. The lid does not close when lifted. I loosened the two long bolts at the forward part of the well all the way, almost to the point that the bolts come out, and are holding on by a few threads. I tried the spare face up and face down, and it is about an inch and ahalf from closing. Any insight?

You can lengthen the lock bolt.

 

I have one the same size (the original spare that came with the car) in my tub presently. No problems with it fitting just fine.

 

My '71 has an old F70/15 bias ply Tiger Paw mounted on a stock 8" wide rally wheel in the spare tire carrier. It fits with no problem at all.

I will say that when I tried to replace that old spare with a slightly larger modern sized 225/70/15 radial mounted on a stock 8" wide rally wheel, it DID not fit. My next step is to try a 215/70/15 as it is is said to be only slightly larger than the F70/15.

 

you may have an older C2 spare tire case? aren't they smaller?
