We try to visit the river walk once a year. But not in the hottest part of the summer..... Headed to the Rodeo this afternoon... Might work on the Vette tonight after it cools down..
The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
Coincidentally that movie was on last night. The version with the restored missing scenes with the new voice overs. I see why they didn't make the cut. Was falling asleep, didn't get the gold. Best western of all time!
i got really lucky and found a set of C5 standard seats for 300 bucks, which was great because they were in great shape, however they were black and my vert is Red with red, and both tops are white!
I can't tell you how many non classic car folks tried to convince me to keep the black covers saying "there's too much red", or " the black looks good, it breaks up the red". No matter, cooler heads prevailed and I purchased custom sport covers that are red with white center, and crossed C3 flags on the head rest!
i know for 300 bucks you can get the metal bracket that allows you to mount the C5 seats to the C3 seat rails...however this is a guy who cut the roof off of his brand new mini truck in the 80's because I wanted a convertible. So...how hard can it be?
I bought aluminum stock about 3" wide and I began to measure and drill. Believe it or not, the toughest part was realizing that I had to put a spacer on each set of bolts to raise them above the head of the other bolt. I could have welded a thread post on each hole however I don't know how to weld...do you believe that? I know it's amazing how much I can actually do without welding.
Any who, once I got the riders figured out the seats went together fairly easily. Once I got the seats mounted , I then bought new foam, and a neat little seat kit that keeps the foam from getting cut up on the bottom, and keeps the bolsters from breaking, plus new covers.
I told you I have rods and mesh in my back...so the last items I got was heated elements and switch, relays etc..., and finally the lumbar backs and pumps. Both of these items were reasonable, about 220 total for the set. All in all, I have 300 for the seats, 300 for the foam, 80 for the foam kit, 220 for the heat/lumbar, and 250 for the synthetic leather covers totaling $1150 for the set!
When I called Austin interiors in Texas, they wanted 1200 a seat to do exactly what I'm doing.
So after all all of this I mount the seats, they feel fantastic and I am in heaven until I start to realize how much space I gave up for my back. The seats are right up to the door, so you better buckle up before closing the doors, and the wheel is closer, you are up a little higher which is ok unless you are tall then you have to worry about the windshield header, or worse the top is you ride with one. I bought a new brake console so I could mount the switched without ruining originality and of course the stock seats are packaged up in case the next guy wants a stock 68, all in all the seats did what I wanted, I'm not sure over time how this is going to play out...I do know for now that I'm thrilled to have a very comfortable C3 and right now I'm having AC installed because frankly I didn't want to screw it up, and then it's off to Carlisle where Al knock is laying brand new vinyl on my hard top ...if you see a red C3 with red/white C5 sport seats give me a wave!! Here a few pics to give you an idea. I don't have the car so I don't have a lot of pod just yet...enjoy!
great job!!
Best of luck with your project!
Phil
