I found the brake light lamp on the dash stays on ....constant...gets brighter when hand brake is applied so that part is OK......it goes off when depressing the brake peddle. Checked wires at switch ..OK ..there....You can not get them backwards, and if you did it would not make it work backwards??
I did install Factory cruse control in the car.
The switch as I understand it..button in, light off..button out, light on..
BAD switch?????
Any ideas????
Sounds to me like your brake system has a problem with the distribution block (commonly...but mistakenly...called the proportioning valve). If the shuttle valve inside that block has shifted to one side [or the other], the integral switch will turn the "BRAKE" light on.
The most common reason for that condition is that either the front or rear brake hydraulic system has developed a leak; and application of the brakes with such a leak will cause the suttle valve to 'trip'. This can also happen if you are bleeding the brakes and depress the brake too quickly during the bleeding process.
The Chevy Chassis Service Manual has the info on how to re-center the valve (following any necessary repairs).

Thanks:::My wife and I were just talking about maybe it had something to do with Distribution block. I would not have thought it was the shuttle valve...But we did just bleed the brakes not long ago.
Thanks I'll look into it..will post results .

Printed out the section for this problem as you suggested.
Procedure worked while bleeding the rear brakes, not on the front brakes. Dash warning light stays lite all the time, only goes off when peddle is depressed.
I believe the warning light valve / switch is defective, will order a new one.
Thanks for the help, I learned something.

PS:I disconnected the wire from the Distribution valve block..Light did not go out...SO I think there is a wire crossed,

Update: I had connected a wire from the Transducer to the brake light wire coming from the Brake Distrib. block valve. dash Brake Light now comes on and when ign. key turned on, and goes off like it suppose to.
