Got a call from the machinist today. After hot tanking and crack testing it looks like my block is OK for a rebuild. Now to start collecting the parts. The block needs a re-bore so it looks like it'll be a 406 when I'm finished.
I love it when parts turn up in the post. My headers arrived the other day. They are mid length 4 into 1 stainless steel with 1 5/8" primaries into 2.5" collectors. They should be a good improvement over the iron manifolds without the ground clearance issues of long tube headers. The price was right too.
The parcel that turned up this morning was the rebuild kit for the TH400 trans. I've been waiting on this one as the trans is half pulled apart. I wanted all the bits before I went too much further.
Like the engine the trans is a filthy leaking mess. Once I get it completely disassembled I'll de-grease and pressure wash it then I'll bead blast the case. I rebuild quite a few manual gearboxes every year and they look brand new after bead blasting.
Called into a local wheel shop on Saturday looking for ideas. Found they had some interesting wheels sitting on the floor that look like they will be a bolt on fit.
17x9.5" rears and 17x8" fronts
Not sure who makes them but they are similar in style to a torque thrust but with straighter spokes.
