this is how the auction game is played. thats why I would not buy a car at an auction.
I don't see why. If an auction company takes chandalier bids (they all do) for amounts under the reserve, then the car would not have sold without those bids yet anyway.
The bottom line is the car is either an acceptable price to pay or not. If its too high, you don't bid. it doesn't matter how the number gets there.
I think these auto auctions are the best car shows in the world. But, they are todays version of "Ringling Bros. and Barnum Bailey's Circus". With the all attracting ring leader Mr. Dana Mecum. Gotta give the man some credit, right place right time!

Can you post of specs on the car for reference: 72 vert. engine/ tranny, conditions. oem-mathcing numbers, etc.
I think the steel bumper cars 68-72 are under valued, similar to the ferrari dinos for a long time. If you look at the advanced styling on the c3 for the late 60- early 70s, GM had it going on, not a lot of QC, but lots of style.
Thank You

Beautiful car! I am totally out of touch with the market, but that seems like very good money for base engine 72, even with A/C.
I was presently surprised myself. The new owner fell in love with the car and did not have much Corvette knowledge. He just liked the car and had to have. Lucky for me!!
