Default Are those mufflers???

Please bear with me while I wait for delivery of this C3...Do I have mufflers on these pipes? I was looking at photos that the seller provided attempting to locate the underbody attachment locations for the shoulder harnesses which I hope to install when this photo struck me as having funny looking mufflers...are these mufflers, glass-packs, or a poor man's set of lakers?

That looks like one of those chambered exhaust systems.

Hi Tom,
Go to the Allen's Exhaust site and look for "chambered pipes/exhaust".
I believe that's what you're seeing.
For a couple of years 69ish? some Camaros had them as an option?….maybe std with the Z28 package?
Very distinctive sound, but not a Corvette sound.
Regards,
Alan

Default Chambered Exhaust

Thanks again everyone. Here is the link to Allen's Exhaust:

http://allencorvetteexhaustsystems.com

I guess you would rate this mod as slightly "bubbafied".

Now back to trying to locate those underbody shoulder harness attachment points.

Got em on my 78. Mine are not loud, but they do have a nice rumble. Exhaust does get muffled by the cat too.

Mini dual cats mellow out the Harley Davidson mufflers on my '34 350SBC truck.....no drone while cruising and no "rap" when letting off the throttle.

Was at the Holz Chevy Corvette show a few years back. A BBC 69 original, low miler, and he said the chambered exhaust is an OEM option. Did it sound sweet! Just had to put it on my 69. T

Hi Terry,
I think the owner you were talking to may have been thinking of the mid-year side exhaust system which is a type of 'chambered pipe'.
It wasn't used or available after 1967 on a Corvette.

Alan

A friend has the chambered exhaust on his big block 70 Chevelle, and it sounds really good.

Sound like side exhaust. Tolerable at a cruise, great when you stomp it!!

I can solve that problem for you... this is the same exhaust on the 71 (top video).

I like this system, but my personal favorite is the stage II system with the 69 side pipe mufflers instead of the chambered. It offers a more throaty sound.

Obviously the camshaft will distort the sweetness of the exhaust too..

We carry both kits on our site.

I have Chambered Pipes on my 1994 Convertible and it sounds great. Supposed to mimic the sound of Side Pipes.
