Funny how when I talk to some people about our vette, I notice people either LOVE them, or HATE them. kinda weird.I admit, I was never a vette guy, I actually used to mimick everything from C4 on up. My girl alwasys wanted a vette. But after crawling all over this thing for the past 9 months, I've grown to appreciate corvettes in way that I never thought possible. I have a lot of respect for them and their owners.
Whats your take on it, do you guys get the same thing?
I have always loved The Corvette since my first job in a small restoration shop for them in New Jersey back in 1980. I was around Vettes all the time and even then I knew that these cars were…..special shall we say.
Corvettes are great looking cars and all that but owning one seems to be more work than its worth. So either you love it or hate it. I don't think anybody who is luke warm on these cars is going to be into one for very long once they realize what it takes to own one. I don't think there is no in between.
You say they love them or hate them I belive that is true. Then when your a custom there is a nother group of hate it or love it. I see it all the time. But I realy dont care what other people think it's my car and that is it. I like all cars so I dont care what it is. Just as long as they drive them.
I wanted a Vette in '68.....but a part-time high school job couldn't handle a whopping $130 per month car note.....
Faaaaaaaaaaaast forward to 2013.......I found a black 1968 hardtop dream-Vette for sale under a tractor shed/w '78 rear tail light clip/w '78 front bumper clip/w raccoons living in the interior/w squirrels living in the heater box............
Actually, I think it's cyclical. I alternate between Love AND Hate with Sassy. She's like the wild, promiscuous girl you knew in High School. Ready for a rowdy ride? Hell yeah! Then there's the payback, You Bitch! How can you do this to me? I loved you and this is how you treat me? Here's my wallet, take it, take it all!!!
Then you make up, climb in, start the too-willing small block, with a grin and the circle goes around again.
I have always loved them! I did not own any just figured the cost was way above what I was willing to pay for a vehicle. In the last 10 years I have started collecting a few older vehicles and doing total rebuilds. Seems I have much more time on my hands and do not need to work all the time. A lot of car friends think that Vette owners are snobs and look down on others. I personally do not believe this to be true. Some of the same people that have said this are now vette owners. The Vette club I belong to does more for the community then other clubs do.
Friday nights most the car people gather at a local restaurant, so we know each other and do a lot of things together. We have more vette, camaro's. Mustangs, and Challenger then most other areas do. Think it has to do with all the young soldiers at Fort Hood....
No one "hates" the C3 Corvettes. There may be many folks who are jealous of the C3's, and for that reason dislike them. But, they are actually just envious....
My grandfather bought my grandmother a brand new 1958 silver-blue with grey coves 283 automatic. I was hooked. It just took until 2001 until I could bring myself to buy my 1980 to "fix up and drive". Yeah, right...he said several thousand dollars later.
Oddly, I was not interested in Corvettes during my High School years. I dreamed about Challenger R/T's, Charger R/T's, and any other Mopar with lots of get up and go. Even mid-50's Chrysler 300's with early hemis and dual quads were my cars of choice.
Since then, I have owned the new Challenger and Charger R/T's and loved them both. But now my Black Mistress (what my wife calls my 80) is my favorite. Once it is finished to my liking, I have a couple of 77's to start on.
I`ve always loved the C3 lines, since they were first unveiled when I was a kid. I just never thought I`d be able to have one. I also loved the wide track look of the 60s Pontiacs. and stayed with them through the years. As time goes by, a house, and kids, and wife.... made it seem like a Vette was even more out of the question.
I am fortunate enough to have a "tom-boy gear-head" wife, and we`ve built a few cars together (see signature line). But with retirement getting close, it was actually HER idea to "go look at this Vette for sale".... and she talked me into doing just one more car... a "retirement toy". If I could keep only one, I`d happily sell them all and keep the Vette!

To let you know just how right you are allow me to explain myself.
I have always been a trans am guy. I was nearly born in a trans am, I came home from the hospital in a trans am, and I grew up in the backseat of a trans am sliding around corners like there was no tomorrow. That trans am is now my daily driver.
You can tell my pontiac pride runs deep.
On the flip side I could never stand the Corvette guys. Not so much the cars (except the fourth gen), but all those uppidy owners with their Corvette tshirts and fancy little pieces of cardboard by their cars.
I've had my 77 for about a month now.
Already have a Corvette tshirt and I kinda (REALLY) like that smug grin you get when someone says "oh you got a new car, what did you get?" and you answer, Corvette

I think this applies to all of the generations.
Even my least favorite, the C2 Coupe, is still a gorgeous car. (yes I know, stone me if you like... but it's just not that appealing, compared to the C3, the C4, C6, C7 to me. It's like the C5, in Vert form I think they're drop dead gorgeous. MADE to be topless imo)
I wouldn't kick any vette out of my garage, unless it was so rotted or ratted out that I couldn't save it. The Corvette is a special soulful car.

I like your car, it is odd…but it is cool. You have the best of both worlds. You own technically both a C2 and a C3.
I was at a cookout on Saturday and talking with my nieces husband, he said, he'd love to get a muscle car someday, now knowing that most real muscle cars are way out his reach, I suggested he pick up a vette maybe a later one like we have, you would've thought I stabbed his mother lol. I've had a few other friends say the same thing, " I don't like vettes " then I realized, once I read a post here that plainly says corvettes aren't muscle cars, they are sports cars. Then I understood.
