Default Fuel filter location

I'm going to replace the fuel filter in my 80' with 5.7 but I can't seem to locate it but I don't know if I'm looking for the correct thing. the new one I got from o'rileys is larger than I thought it would be, it's about the diameter of a pop can and half the height. Is this the correct filter and where is it located on the car.
Thanks

As Easy Mike stated in the carburetor, you bought the wrong filter. Below is an image of the correct one. 82 has throttle body injection.

If you still have a stock Q-Jet, the filter is located in the front of the carburetor body.

Where the fuel line goes into the carb, there is a larger hex nut, that the fuel line threads into. Pull the fuel line and then the large hex nut, and you will find the filter. Once you've replaced the filter, be careful not to over tighten the filter nut housing, when you re-install the filter. It's very easy to strip the threads, inside of the carb body.
