I am assuming you've checked my question regarding the intake runner cutout on the valve cover? I'm not sure you're level of skill, but if you've put it on upside down (rotated 180°), you'll have the cutouts facing the exhaust manifolds instead of the intake manifold. That EGR valve should fit right in that same location.

L-82 engines came from the factory with those covers AND an EGR valve installed. There should be no problem with it fitting.
Also, if you remove the EGR valve, make sure that you clean out any carbon gunk that has collected in the intake passages. This can be a source of engine performance problems.
