I used search and it came up with a lot of threads read a lot of them and they said to check the eng decal under the hood so I went out and popped the hood my decal is sorta there you can see the silver color but nothing else. Friday I called GM and talked to them and they were help full until they were ready to give me the info its the new car sticker of what the car was sold with but he wanted $50.00. All I need to know if my car was built with a smog pump. Can you tell from the VIN? My vin is 1Z8789S409311. GM said high alt cars did not have a smog pump I live in Ut I bought the car from Id both around 4600, foot alt so I would think that would be high alt so I am HOPING mine did not come with a smog because I have nothing on the car that would go with a smog pump, can any one shed some light on my little problem??
Vettebuyer5869 You are 100% correct I am very sorry

Reason: not enough info
Can you read any part of the emissions label? this is a pic of my 78 which shows DW in the top left hand side for L82. If it was a Hi. Alt car it would read DY.
The codes for 79 are:
ca= L48 (early usage to about vin 10000)
x6=L48
cj= L82
cm=Hi.Alt.
cr=calif.
Labels can be changed but if we are talking original those are the codes for 1979
Your VIN states that it's an L48, not an L82. If it was originally an automatic, it would NOT have had a smog pump.
can you enlighten me about how you found that out?? I have used every vin diag thing I could find I know where the car was built the number it is and all the reg stuff.

The 5th character in your VIN is an 8, this designates L48.
L48 non California didn't have pump but l82 did no matter where there from that was my understanding
Later C3s and smog pumps get a little dicey, as far as information goes. I have also heard that 4-speeds have have received pumps, regardless of L48 or L82. Hopefully Tom can enlighten us, he is pretty good with the later year models.
This is from the NCRS judging manual for 78/79:
"Those vehicles equipped with AIR systems include: all L82s, all California emissions (NB2) and all High Altitude emissions (NA6)"
If you take the above to be true then is appears that a L48 (regardless of transmission) with a Hi Alt designation does have equipment?
If the engine stamp pad shows a suffix of ZAD this is an indication that it is a High Alt. L48 auto car.
Go here http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/...x.php?cmd=area and see if you can obtain a copy of the original dealer invoice for your car. If your car had the NA6 option installed on it, the invoice will list it.
