Default Mr.

Hello people. I'm new to this forum but really enjoy all the good info you people offer. I bought a '74 L82 stick when they first came out. Unfortunately I sold it 5 years later. Now my Grandchildren want one back in the family! Question: I was always under the impression the L82 was a much quicker engine than the L48. However, I just saw the 0-60 results for both engines and there is only .1 of a difference! (6.8 vs 6.7 for the L82). I'm having a hard time finding a good L82, but with that small bit of difference, I'm wondering if it's worth continuing my L82 search. Since the L48 is quite a bit less expensive than the L82, I'm thinking about buying a good L48 and down the road dropping a 320HP crate engine into it. Your thoughts would be much appreciated, as I have been out of the Vette market for quite some time. I'd be interested in hearing how many of you L48 owners are satisfied with your stock engine and have not tried increasing the HP.

Thanks in advance.

at this stage , most L82's are either worn out, replaced, modified. i would go with the L48 and do with it what you want... my L82, looked like an L82 on the outside but after pulling it and tearing it down it was just a plain 350 (L48). So you just dont know what you are getting after this many years.....

A good running L48 is better than a 'bagged' L82 anyday.

$25 badges will make an l48 and l82 or a LT1 for that matter. I was happy with my l48 until my car over heated múltiple times and then I blew my tranny after so now I have a slightly modded 355 and a beefed up tranny with a couple of shiny thing to go with it. No I plan on changing the shifter plaque to a 68-70 one that say 350 cu in 370 hp. Probably gonna cost me 12 bucks. Really upto and if the mark up is worth it. Just some set of headers will liven up an l48

My L48 has 115,000, is stock, runs great, and as far as I can tell has never been tore down. It's plenty quick enough to get you where you want as fast as you want. So go with a L48 and change the badges or run no badges at all like mine.

For my type of driving (weekend cruising) the L-48 is more than adequate. I have no plans to add any more performance to it.
