...can I remove only the drivers side only without the removal of the other parts of dash?...
Could be a tough chore. Keep in mind the main dash harness routes behind the driver's side dash, over to the center cluster, and evenutally out to the passenger's side. You could probably get access to the rear of the driver's dash, but you will not be able to remove it until you decide what you want to do with the harness.
What are you wanting to do? What are the "other parts" you are not wanting to remove?
Hi 2c,
Yes, but it's not easy.
Most people find dropping the steering column first makes it easier and safer.
A LOT of stuff going on behind that panel! Be careful!
Regards,
Alan
2nd part is easy. Vent ball replacement doesn't need dash pulling. If memory serves, rotate 90 degrees, pop out and replace. Headlight switch another matter. As Alan71 mentioned, dropping steering column is probably the best. A quick search in the tech forum (actually , for both operations) should give you all the info you'll need. Have a great day, Bill.
You can loosen the panel enough to get to the light switch. Removing it is not required. You'll need to lower the steering column. Mark the vacuum hoses on the switch before you remove them. They're color coded, but the color might have faded years ago.
I just replaced my headlight switch and like others have said you need to drop the column so the dash will come out/down enough to get to the switch .To get the switch out there is a small spring loaded button on the back side of the switch that releases the rod. Good luck!
Just replaced my headlight switch also. I removed the 2 bolts at the firewall, 2 bolts underneath the column at the overrides and let the column down about 2 inches and supported it there. Removed the screws on the panel itself then had enough room to access the switch.
Hi, I turned the ball 90 degrees and it was tight when I pulled it. Iam scared to break the dash.
When I replaced mine, I searched the forum (Tech, I think) and found a thread that 7T1vette had replied to in 2010. It worked for the OP and it worked for me (the turn 90 degree and yank thing). I'm not about to guarantee anything, but it did work when I tried it. Kinda worried me a bit 'cause it was tight, but popped out fine. Also sweated it out when I popped the new one in, but, again, nothing broke. Search for the original form by Zell76 - October 2010. (Sorry, I don't know how to post links to threads.) Good luck and have a wonnerful week, Bill
