Guys hows it going.... I have a 69 convertible that my dad bought 25 years ago I started to rebuild.. An issue I am having is I stripped the car down and started replacing parts but when it came to the radiator support it was rotted so I tossed it, I fabricated my own but now I'm realizing that I made this based on the current width of the mounting points not the original support. When I went to fit my hood on its off by ~1/4 inch now so I am guessing the support being off the last year or so has caused some sag or pulls the inner fenders together slightly.. from side to side where the support goes I measured 33 1/2 last night?
Does anyone know what the measurement should be or any other ideas as to why the hood gap towards the nose would be off 1/4 inch?
Why not order a reproduction radiator support? Pricey, but no guess work involved. The radiator support is a major structural component for the front clip.
Alan thanks.... my measurement is not quite that wide side to side where the support bolts in? Also if I put my hood hinges back in the factory location the bolt holes for the hood are 33 1/2 as well while the factory hood and aftermarket hood I have measure 33 1/4, the hinges hit the side of the hood and there isn't enough adjustment to get it to fit correctly. I may try to make a manual adjuster between the mounting points to see if I can get the alignment to come in..
Mike, there's a few reasons I'm not going with the factory support... I'm not restoring the car to factory specs... its more of a pro-touring style now but I didn't want to hurt the integrity of the car so in order to fit the ls engine and turbo with the electric fans/larger radiator etc. I had to fabricate one to accommodate this stuff so I didn't have to cut anything.
