Any tips on troubleshooting the reverse lights? Bulbs them selves are good and the switch on the shifter lever in the car is attached. The car is a 1971 with an automatic trans.
Thanks!
My 74 is a 4 speed. However it is the same to troubleshoot.
Check the wires at the switch one should be hot all the time I believe, or key on hot.
Think mine were pink/green wires.
If you have power on one wire key on in park then the switch is most likely bad. However we need to know for sure.
Put the car in R, key on engine off. You should now have power on both wires. If not the switch is bad.
If you do move back to the lights. Do you have power at the socket?
If not you need to find the broken wire between the switch and the light.
If you do have power check the ground. With the lights on check for voltage, if you have voltage then the ground is bad.
well that rules out the fuse actually I just realized it may be different on a 71 anyway. I just had a similar issue, but it was the fuse. And the fuse didn't look bad, I replaced it anyway and it worked.
