4_speed
I have a 76 stingray that is hard to get out of reverse. Has anybody heard of this before and what can I do to fix it. 4-speed manual

You could have a lock out cable that is freezing up. Disconnect it and see if that helps.

Could also be the shifter linkage needs adjustment. Reverse has its own shifter linkage.

need more detail, but probably mis adjusted shifter or worn out shifter bushings

Does it go in and out of other gears ok? Sometimes a clutch adjustment (increase the clutch disengagement) may help with smoother shift transitions.

It shifts just fine in all the forward gears,it goes into reverse just fine, when you pull it down it just don't want to pop over into neutral.

I started to remove that cable,and it was already off at the top. But the cable is easy to move. I hooked it back up and it wouldn't even come close to going into reverse. I had to unhook it.

I have a brand new cable on my 72 and it runs hard. It is a poor design that I wish they would have left out all together.

Happened to me a couple times. The shifter rods were getting all bound up. Had to loosen and then tighten.
