Default Identify this part

I found this part in one of the many boxes that came with my previously disassembled 68 convertible. Most of the parts were either tagged or in marked zip lock bags. I found this one loose in a box and haven't been able to determine what it is and it's not in my AIM. Can someone please tell me what it is and where it goes?

I think it goes on the parking brake. It holds the pulley that turns the cable direction. I don't have my manual with me to confirm.

According to the AIM that I have the pulley for the parking brake attaches to a bracket on the crossmember near the transmission mount. Still not sure where this part goes.

It does look like the parking brake pulley bracket, but where ever it goes, one of th holes look wallowed out.

Hi S,
Perhaps 68 frames have a different bracket for the e-brake pulley?
Does your frame have a bracket like this mounted (welded) to the transmission cross member?
Regards,
Alan

Whatever you do - don't discard it as it's probably worth $165.

Yes, it does have the bracket and I don't know if 68's are different. I'll hold on to it. Maybe it's proper location will be revealed to me in a dream lol.

Hi S,
I thought perhaps it was from a 63-66 frame since they have a bracket in a different location to mount the 'lever' that's part of their e-brake system.
So I looked…. but that doesn't appear to be it either.
Post a picture with a scale next to it…. the size might turn the light on in someones head.
The gauge of the steel makes me think chassis/frame not body.
Regards,
Alan

I want it to be one of these brackets, but for a 68… but I don't see how it would work?

Thanks Alan. I took some more photos and added a ruler to give the part some scale. Hopefully, some sharp eyed forum member can help identify this part.

Items on a '68 that pivot or use pulleys:
1) headlight buckets-----no
2) wiper door assembly-no
3) climate control -------no
4) parking brake assembly--no
5) rear window storage tray--no
6) rear sway bar--no
I do not think this piece is from a '68?

I am inclined to agree with you on this part not being from a 68. It may just be an extra part that ended up in one of the boxes. Probably belongs on a screen door closing mechanism lol. Sure is a mystery though.

Alan, The parking brake bracket that you show, looks the same on a 68 except they were welded on to the frame, not bolted on. Lou.

Hi lou,
On a 68 doesn't the cable actually pass through a hole in the crossmember rather than under it?
Regards,
Alan

Alan, I have a new GM issue 68-74 frame now, so I can not check mine. I am pretty sure that the cable went underneath the frame. If I remember right, the welded bracket only had one cable hole, so there was a left and right bracket. They got smart and the second design was for either side. Lou.
