Default Value my LS5 please

Yes, I know "whatever someone will pay"...but...

I am going to fire up my '70 LS5 (yes from a Vette) tomorrow or Sunday, in order to get it ready to sell.

I have to look at at the old records when we put it in my '57., but think either 67k or 72K is correct.

It's complete, minus the original coil..the starter is not original....The TH400 is.

Currently has a different intake and carb on it, but the Rochester and factory intake is on the shelf...not sure if I still have the AC brackets, but do have the compressor and lines...also have all the flashed chrome tin ware for distributor and wires.

I did noticed today that there are plugs on the exhaust manifolds, possibly my dad puled off AIR lines?...not sure...there is no smog pump (if there ever was one) or power steering pump..

Has the original Alt as well

So what is this nice running (even though I have not fired it yet, but know it will run fine) combo worth?

Thanks for all thoughts.

What is the VIN #? Some 454'S had holes drilled & plugged in 1970. Mine has them.

This may sound silly but if it does in fact have the original alternator that by itself may be worth almost as much as the engine to the right person.
How about posting some pics? You know what they say, pictures are worth $1000.................. or is it words????
Either way pics help.

I have the PU under a carport right now, and my cell doesn't have flash, so I have to wait till the light leaks in...lol.
I'll get the number off the stamp pad as well and post'em up this afternoon.
I'd just noticed the plugged exhaust holes, wasn't sure if something was there and my dad removed...I was about 10 at the time just handing him wrenches.

if it is truly a 70, then I would want to see the date codes on the engine, heads, intake, exhaust, carb stamping and alternator. yes that original alt would go for $500 easily and the carb restored would go for at least $1000.

but the problem is that you stated there are plugs on the AIR lines that connect the exhaust manifold. that should not be there. You may not have what you think you have. check the date codes on the exhaust manifolds. with that discrepancy, I would need confirmation of all the parts date codes/casting numbers and stampings, to prove they all lined up.

so is the TH400 also for sale? check for stamping on it that matches the engine stamp.

if all the codes line up then you have a valuable package there. someone would want it.

The Engine numbers
T0306CGW
70S406948

Rochester
7040504 FR
0230

I'd be happy to let anyone check anything out on it...my dad bought this car in late 1971, it was wrecked with just under 7K miles...pulled the engine and tranny and massaged it into the '57...somewhere I have the title to it as well...yes, I'll be selling the tranny as well...hopefully the tag is still on it, my dad's friend (retired GM Mech at the time) rebuilt it for me in the late 70's.

I'll look for the tranny numbers (where would they be located at?) and exhaust manifolds numbers once I find my darn glasses...had to have my nephew read the engine and carb numbers for me

I suppose anything could have happened in the first 7K miles before my dad got it.

I'll pop the VC's after I get it running this weekend, I'm sure the old gaskets won't reseal, so rather get it running first before making a mess.

BTW, it's still running the Tach drive distributor as well, but I never hooked up a mechanical tach to it.

Thanks.

Edit:

Off the trans tag

7S 414

lower stamp

70-CS-2766

DS EX manifold
GM2T

Intake and AC compressor are up in the shop rafters, will pull them down later when I get some help.

Thanks.

The trans tag decodes like this 70=1970, CS=monte carlo or corvette, 2766=production sequence so that makes sense for a 70 vette. Im sure others will help with the engine #s

Thanks Dug...I'm pretty sure it's as it came.

Question for anyone...I'm leaning towards the Alternator NOT being original...as it is painted grey...and not in bare Al....I didn't pull it to look at the other side...but thinking pops may have replaced it in the past.

Good new is after futzing around after priming the engine...was able to get TDC back...tad of gas in the carb...she want's to run again.

Getting dark, so tomorrow will hook up an external pump to a gas can, and see if I rebuilt the Edelbrock 1407 I had correctly or not

Your carb "Rochester 7040504 FR 0230" would be for a CA. car.

BINGO Your exhaust manifolds are ORIGINAL factory installed. The NCRS judging guide states that 454'S in that VIN range can have the plugs. My VIN is close to yours & I have the plugs. Don't let anyone tell you different.
