Will the T5 bolt in? Ive asked before what other transmission options we have for these cars and the subject falls flat. I cant afford 3K for a Tremec or the likes, but a used T5 seems like a better option. (If it fits)

The T5 wont drop in as quick and easy like the original, but it will after a few mods. Shorter driveshaft, rear mount, and shifter relocation. Plenty of T5 swaps here on the forum, did 2 of them and very happy with the results.

This combination allows you overdrive in 2nd,3rd,and 4th gear. It is rock solid and more fun to drive than anything I have been in.
I predict you grenade that Muncie if you dump the clutch with sticky tires...

I've not done my swap yet, but there is a lot of info "how to do it"
As John is telling, it is not much that have to be done.

If you go done this road, then you have know what ratio you would like to have, there are many different T5 out there.
Also, I think it was after 1988, the T5 came in a WC version, that could handle more power.
I looked for a 1988 Camaro v8 0.63 in 5th tranni, also because 1988 is the only year where manual tach and WC was made.

The reason why I bought a 0.63, is I have 3.70 rear. If you have a 3.55, then maybe a different ratio would be better for you.

My transmission is a 1352-176

Griz73, exactly how does that GVO unit work? Is there a button on your shifter or what? I have driven old TRs with an OD, pretty clever

Well I got all excited about a T5 conversion. Then I looked up how much HP/TQ it could handle and I realized that my mildly worked 454 will blow up a T5 in about 30 seconds. Anybody have a used Tremec for 500 bucks?
