big block/small block internal engine help
Ok guys,
Just some quick help what the hell is this pulled the valve cover on a vehicle we bought for my dad and found this about the size of a nickel. I was thinking a valve spring peice but never had any noise

you have a number of different items in the picture, a single washer, a bolt with a washer and what looks like a piece of rubber. Is the rubber piece the item you are questioning? If so could be the remains of a umbrella style valve seal.

The rubber thing could be a valve seal but the other stuff shouldn't be in there...

sorry guys
I was in a rush.
I had to be at work 3 1/2 hours early so that threw a monkey wrench in my time and post. It was the black thing in 4 peices
While I was dropping off the valve covers at machine shop I figured I would ask them and it turned out to be old broken down breather grommet they even matched it up.
But to adhere on the safe side I checked all the valve seals and they are intact which I found to actually be somewhat of a pain on a big block with the staggered valves but thank you guys and yea the washers would have been a huge surprise if they were in there
