I'm considering a 68 roadster at a dealer. It appears original from photos they sent. The vin is very late 4278xx and is also stamped on the block. The assy date on the block is "V0705HE" (July 5). The trim tag appears original and has a body built code of "M03". This is a 327/300 in all original condition except the paint. My question is: my manuals do not show "M" as a valid month. Any thoughts on this? Thanks as usual.

...The trim tag appears original and has a body built code of "M03"...
M03 would be August 3, 1968. Production was ramping down.

My Black Book skips July 1968 (L). It shows June and August which can throw you off if you don't realize it skips July. The NCRS 1968-82 Corvette Specifications Guide shows July but says the total monthly production figure is unknown.
Ok thanks, I must have an old judging manual. Mine says the last vin 428566 was made in July, (this car is 4278xx) and the last body time built code in my manual says "L = July". There is no "M" in this manual. I'm ordering a new manual in case I buy a 68. Thanks again.
...Check the C3 registry. Its showing 427887 as a M05 and 427734 as a M02...
That works.
M02 was a Friday and 27734 was tagged
M03 was a Saturday and the car the OP is looking at was tagged.
M05 was a Monday; 27887 tagged. 679s cars from end of production.
My money says 68 production ended by Friday, August 9, 1968. I've seen a source which says the following week (8/16/68), but the 9th seems more likely.
bob-vette: the pilot line stamps you found are probably for parts to be used in 69 production.
