Funny you should mention that WB as I am starting to freak about too much information being submitted. (maybe not Dobermanns but you won't be leaving feeling too good just don't need to dangle the carrot eh!!)
The thread is digressing somewhat but can you enlighten me on the carbon back Order Copy and I will start to take items down.

As Ralph correctly points out there was no strike at that time- but that has no bearing on the presence of mismatched fasteners on a car. GM had multiple suppliers of each nut, bolt, screw etc. There was no effort made to ensure that intermixing did not occur.

I hear what your saying Guys, I was told that at the time of strike it was not unusual to go to the local hardware and purchase what they needed.
True or false it all makes sense, Thanks.

Shot them off a polite email with Photos and Docs just asking the question. (No Names except for mine) I asked they treat the email how they see fit but would love to hear from them if true.

If they were on strike why would anyone be going shopping?

After 25 years in the hobby- never heard that one.

Ooops! ... get rid of the typest. That was meant to read 'as a result of' but I'm guessing from your reply that might be another one of those stories that I hang on to, not knowing any different.

I hopped on Wiki and found a fair bit of strife going on back then but nothing like the Big One.

Crashed and burned on that A&O Mold one Ralph my friend, they have apparently only been in operation since 1986. I'll keep trying though

B indicates the second month of production, usually September but there are exceptions.

On the page you posted, you're looking at transmission codes.

Assumptions, guesses and old rumours will almost always lead one astray. There's at least a half dozen different methods used by GM and it's suppliers for date codes. There's two different methods just for transmissions.

Trim tags on St. Louis built Corvettes use a unique system with the letter 'A' being tied to the month the year's production began. This could be anywhere between August and December. 1972 production started in August as Mike noted.

Have you looked at any of the engine numbers, dates and stamps to see if they are the originals?

Spot on the money but I know no different to be able to filter the truth.

I have idetified the seat belts and carpet as original and have found ways to identify the codes on them.
Yes! (just went and checked)
Engine and Gearbox are the same, "12S******"
1 = Division 1
2 = Year
S = St Louis
* = and the rest is the sequential production number.

Gearbox also has code P2P15A which I believe I have cracked with the exception of the "A"???
"D" or "N" I can find but not "A"???

I might have found a clue.

Do you know the location(s) of previous owners?

Rockford, Ill. / Mecum in St. Charles. / California Supersport Auto in CA / Aurora, Ill. 2008.
The oldest and last record I have is an "Estimate of Value" from a company calling itself "Sun Ray Corvette", Roselle Ill.
Dated April 1985, it was addressed to a Mr ****, Senior from Palatine, Ill.

(BELOW: This guy sold it through Mecum to my guy in Rockford)

Thanks Ralf Finally found a website that also confirms your post.
It says my main case casting number is the same from '70-'74 and that the A,B or C means M20,21 or 22.
