Default 1972 Engine stamp pad question

Stamp pad on recently purchased LT1 has "XX" stamped towards front of engine, or below V0329CKY. Does anyone know what the "XX" is?

Thanks....Greg

It's not typical of production. Best post a picture.

Machinist markings, perhaps.

I would bet it is a rebuilders stamp for warranty work if something was not right so he could tell it was his rebuild.

None of them did, early or late.

I agree. I see two marks, but they do not look like Xs to me.

Look more like stray marks from something other than a stamp.

Hard to see, but there are two Xs. The first X is slightly lower than the second. Also, the X characters "appear" to be more like two strikes per letter (i.e. a slash, and separate back slash to form a X).

While we're all straining on our eyes over a picture possibly taken in candlelight with a potato, I don't remember ever seeing a VIN derivative place that far to the right.

Strange looking pad.

I wondered about that too Mike. If that was the ONLY thing on this pad, I might say OK. More than one questionable issue. Who knows?

I see the CKY

The C is sorta spaced futher left of the K ..than I would expect .

I enlarged the pad ...best I could make out .. The C is there way to left.of the KY Then a worn K and Y.......it appears the pad look ok ....I see no swirl .....

Now ....I admit it's odd spaced so far to right .....never seen one stamped so far...but there's a first for everything.

I haven't looked up the correct code .....is CKY correct?

I think we see a lot of things on that pad. Part of the problem is that the picture is not clear enough for a really good look at it.
