I'm doing a body off on a 70 lt1. While doing the engine compartment I noticed the emission tag is incorrect for the car. It is an AX code,350-350 hp. The car is a true lt1. I have sales agreement and partial tank sticker. From what I can tell it was never in an accident or had any body repair so I know it is original from 1970. Is this a common mistake and should I change it the correct one. I'm going for an NCRS award. Thanks in advance.

I'd make absolutely sure that it's not the original label before disturbing it and even then hang on to it.

I agree with Mike...and it has the 7801149 A.I.R. pump? A common part number for those early C3 years. It's got to be a nice Corvette if its a documented, unmolested 1970 LT1. I would snap a high-resolution photo, jump on the NCRS Tech Board, and post for comments. Terry McManmon, who documented many of those early C3 reference manuals, I would suspect, know the situation in which those stickers were used or the deviations.
Or, post here. You would reach the current team leader who could offer some informed guidance.
The NCRS guide says label 3989299 "up to at least s/n 5213" and 3989374 "beginning with at least s/n 6740"
My car is 1889 and did have enough of the original to satisfy me in getting the correct repo label. Dr Rebuilt has the early label if that is the one you need. He lists it as "before Jan 1970". Good luck with the restoration. emmiss label by toylman, on Flickr
remember 70 was short production run due to strike in 69 and anything is possible, I would leave it on and take deduct if it looks like never been off as even experts have been wrong. check ncrs board and ask question, some original owner 70 LT-1 members that can probably help you out. good luck.
