I am in the process of putting the complete Corvette Central 454 side pipe kit 323152 on our '78 Corvette using Headman Hedder side pipe headers H68286...the headers come to a 3" flange and come with a reducer that brings it down to 2.5"...I am going to reduce that down to match up to the 2"pipe on the side exhaust muffler...upon first mock up I see the rear of the mufflers hang about 1.75" too low to meet up with the cover, and the tip is angled up too much...it looks like I am going to have to heat off the rear muffler mount that goes to the frame spot and reposition it on the muffler to pick up the missing height...then bend the mount so that the exit of the muffler matches that of the cover...has anyone else run into this terrible problem?...I have been restoring the car from a wheel chair since July...now I have to have surgery after tearing my right shoulder's rotator cuff...what a klutz
As they say, when brute force don't work ...use more brute force.
Yup! Building a 1931 Chevy long ago, one corner of the body was 1/4" low, causing the body lines to not match up.
Wife says....
"Well, you have a sawzall and a grinder.... FIX IT!"
I spent the next 2 weekends cutting, grinding, & re-welding.
I predict sparks in the future of your side pipes!
putting those stock pipes on a 454 is going to rob a ton of power. I put 3'' pipes behind my stock style covers with auger inserts. 3'' fits great and you don't see the pipes hanging down under the cover like most stock pipes do
