There are only 13 digets in my vin is that correct for a C3? for my USAA insurance quote they are asking for a 17 diget, does anyone know where I can go to get this de-coded (web-site)
I don't think we have more than 13 in our cars. That's why things like CarFax won't give us any history etc.. You might want to try asking for a supervisor, or maybe an OLD supervisor!

Before 1981, VINs were not consistent, and Corvettes had 13 digits, as you have. Starting in 1981, all vehicles became standardized to a 17 digit VIN.
Characters 1-2 = 1Z (Chevrolet Corvette)
Characters 3-4 = 67 (Convertible) or 37 (coupe)
Character 5 = J (Base L48 Engine), or T (L-82), or Z (454)
Character 6 = 4 (Last Digit of Model year)
Character 7 = S (St Louis Assembly Plant)
Characters 8-13 = 6 Digit Build Sequence Number (starts at 400000)
So you have a 74 L-48 coupe, number 35256 of 37502 (probably built Sept 1974).
Actually, 68-80 VINs were consistent in format per model year.
Actually, they weren't.
For example, in the 1970's, while GM & Chrysler used 13 digits, Ford used 11, VW used 10, Jaguar used 17, Datsun used 10. In 1981, they became consistent worldwide.
