After two C4s and two C5s, I have seen the error of my ways and traded for a 1982 Collectors Edition today.
Although C4s and C5s are great cars, I can't stand all the electrical
problems these cars have. They can leave you stranded with no warning what so ever.
There has been a Corvette in my driveway ever since 1968 so I am going back to my roots and cars that I understand.

Welcome back home. If I can help you get started with basic '82 stuff, let me know. Start by getting a shop manual, and do a search on the forum for 1982's.
Enjoy the technology/design of the latest model C3 with the lines on a Corvette as God intended.

I would not go near a C4 but tell us about the problems with the C5. Is this the old 1997-2001 ECM (part not available from GM) issue?

Welcome back brother! I did the same thing years ago. Fortunately my C4's were new so I didn't have the experience with the problems. Nowdays when there is a problem with the computerized cars, all you can do is take them into a dealer and have them plug em in to see what is going wrong. Like you said, the good thing about these cars is that when there is a problem, you can just sit and think about what went wrong and diagnose it yourself "along with the help of this finetastic forum folks."

ECM, EBCM, HVAC multiple problems; steering column lock up, key fobs and TPS sensors, oil pressure gauge sensor, etc. etc. etc.
need I go on?

No, you need not go on. That is exactly why I have not bought a C5. All of what you say is well-documented in the C5 Forum. GM labor here is about $120/hr after the initial $160 diagnostic fee.

Me? I adjust the dwell each spring. And yes, I have a dwell tachometer. Might require a bit of filing of the points.

I'm not sure that I would rally around the financial savings of fully doing right by a C3 - they are like any expensive toy, especially at the start when you are working out the usual bugs and making it your own. (Do you hear that speedRacer2, even though you look like you have a good one there?) But let's cut straight to it - the "$-to-cool factor" is incomparable and makes the lighter wallet a ton more tolerable, more on our own terms vs. a C4-6, and borderline enjoyable. We're a sick lot.
