My 73 convertible w/ac was a mess when we got it, a lot of sorry repair work, missing parts, but we're working on making it right. Missing most of the dash bracing (bracing rods) and maybe even some of the attaching points have been eliminated. I find the assembly manual lacking in showing what should be there and detail in attaching points. All I have now is the huge metal plate that is rivited to floor at trans tunnel with one brace going to right side of steering column support, and another from left side of steering support to left door pillar frame. Does anyone have pics of there dash apart and the bracing intact? Trying to track down parts.
I'd like to see a photo of another car with braces intact, I've got the assembly manual, would like to see a real car with braces in place, manual shows 5 braces, gives three part numbers (don't think those #'s will help anyway)
Thanks sixtynine. I did not pull the dash side. My job was "just" an A/C heater core. Great pic of the other side. I would guess the OP has the full picture now.
Do a search on cowl shake..LOTS of info there! BTW my 71 vert has some braces but in way different positions as the 74 shown Seems they interfere with aftermarket AC units...
Yea I put vintage air in mine and I worked all of the braces back into mine. It added a bit of a challenge. I posted my install and pics. The whole thing was a challenge.
This is the first I've ever seen them and I'm feeling kinda left out my '69 doesn't have any...
they look useful to stiffen things up!

The braces were added mid production in 1968 to all convertibles, and to coupes equipped with A/C. The approximate date they were added to production is March 1968.
The brace configurations changed over the years so not all cars look the same.
Show below is a pictures of the passenger side braces on my April 1968 built convertible.
There is a second lower one that is hidden by the duct.
Mine is an early 69 (Feb 1 build date) with A/C and had no brackets. When I looked around, the point where the large bracket should have attached on the right side dash below the post, there wasn't any marks where it would have been bolted in. Because of this, I assumed they were never installed and had not been removed by a previous owner. The picture attached isn't the best, but is the only shot (after I removed the dash) that I could find from several years ago.
I have a 75 convertible and when I opened mine up I found I was missing the 2 of the braces on the driver's side. I found them on ebay and ordered them and they should be arriving any day. I had to order all three braces on the drivers side, so I will have an extra 3962667 as seen on the attached diagram. I will be glad to sell it to you for what I paid for it.
