I don't know anything that you can do that won't stick out like a sore thumb. I don't know how long you have lived with the luggage rack but if you are going to paint it in the summer why not wait a few months and do the job once the right way?

Blending the holes is a time consuming job, but it can be done. One of the keys to successfully doing this is allowing enough time for the fiberglass repair to set / shrink. That takes months.

If you are going to paint next summer, start filling the holes now.

A search of the forum will provide the details for correctly filling these holes.

It is considerably easier if you can access the underside of the panel (i.e. remove the gas tank).

Good luck on it.

The best method is to bevel the holes edges about 1/2", then glue a piece of fiberglass to the underside of the deck to cover the holes. Then fill the hole with ground glass fiber mixed with epoxy. Let it harden for a few days and then add another coat slightly overfilling. When that sets, block sand and hit it with epoxy primer and a body glaze. It will be invisible.

If you are just looking for something to temporarily fill them until you paint, you might try plastic screw caps from the hardware store. I sometimes remove my luggage rack and use these to fill the holes. I painted them the color of the car and they aren't really noticeable. Since I use my luggage rack, I want to keep the holes and this is a good solution for me.

I do not want to hi-jack this thread but this is same subject. I want to remove my luggage rack on my 68 roadster and have it rechromed. How does it come off, do I have to remove the gas tank to gain access to bottom of deck? Any information would be appreciated as I want to do this winter.

You just unscrew it from the top and pull it out. No need to remove the gas tank.

They fit thru the holes in the deck and are tightened with thru bolts.
Have a wonderful New Year, Bill
