Default Asking for help selecting a differential rebuild kit

Is this a good choice?
Is it overpriced?
Do we get a discount?
The quality looks right.

I like that they are Timken bearings

You could probably save $30+ buying from your local parts house.....

BUT......you could spend $30 in gasoline and most of a day chasing down individual pieces if one parts house doesn't have everything you need

My rear end guy says the clutch pack is good and suggested leaving it he also says gears look great. Im the one who said at least change the bearings and seals, he said he would pick them up unless I wanted to so here I am

If there are side yoke bearings in that kit they are probably the cheap ones with plastic races. The original GM side yoke bearings are all metal rollers with no spaces, they will withstand a higher load. Sounds like your Jegs Kit is the one for a 12 bolt Chevy Axel....same bearings as a Vette, I'll bet there aren't any side yoke seals or bearings in it. Van Steel or Tom's Differentials have good parts. I question the guy doing your rebuild.....I buy and specify the parts used in my rebuilds, then again I back my work....you have now given your rebuilder a way to deny any warranty issues by providing parts. I sure hope you have a guy who knows Vettes, they are tougher to rebuild than normal differentials and if the setup isn't perfect, you will hear the gear noise as the differential is closer to your ears than in any other car and the sound transmits more easily through the fiberglass floor. Not changing clutch packs? I hope your differential doesn't have the " daisy petal " clutch plates in it, they tend to crack with age/fatigue. You should discover the "tech/performance" section of the C3 forums, lots of knowledge in that section and not many come to the general section often.

I dont think any bearings made have plastic races. Ive seen plastic cages before yes. Dont worry about the competency of my differential guy he has been building drag racing motors trannys and diffs for 40 years. He explained to me the incredible side loading on these bearings so he is well aware of what to look for. Thanks for your concern. I am not even close to being a Corvette mechanic but trying to surround myself with knowledgeable people and the help I get here is vital. Its because of this forum that Im not afraid of taking on this resto.
