Default Switchblade key 79 vette?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/OEM-Chevy-Re...-/400388727834
This is a will it work question not a what do you think about it question.
All I care about is can I get it cut right to start my car AND maintain its switch blade fob functionality.
Note the picture shows the thin side of the key
I know it's not under the section for vehicles it will work for... BUT
If I use it for just a key I think it may work, especially since it was an option on those vehicles and you could have gotten a normal key so therefore I think it may work in my own opinion

I won't think so. Those look like the new style laser cut keys which are a very different in design.

Hi,
Won't the blade need to have the proper key-way for your particular door and ignition locks cut into it too?
The key-ways are the long slots on each side of the blade. Their width and position of the slots varied from year to year.
Can that be done?
Regards,
Alan

I have to agree with Alan. Uncut it is just a rectangular piece of metal. I don't think it will go in your lock. I guess you could (depending on the metal used) have a key that fits welded to the cut off stub of the one you ordered or somehow install a late model lock. I think you will find it is too much trouble for this particular key fob. The key machine doesn't add the key-ways on the sides.

I wil, probably just cut both my extra key and the new one and weld the key to the piece of metal on the fob

Thanks man! I'm going to try this other plan first, I made a copy of my key to cut just have to wait on chevy flip key now, my only problem is what locks it into place in the folded position? If I cut of most of the blade on it

What type of welder should I use to do this...
Also there is a way to remove the blade in the key fob
Should I try that and try to mold the extra unneeded key on my spare to fit that blade hole and then put the pin back in?

If you can get matching materials as I said above, you might get someone to TIG weld it. It would probably still need to be machined/filed to fit. Even then I would not trust it. Good Luck

Thank you!

There is a pin that locks the blade into place in a slot! What did you think of my idea of molding the end of the key to fit in the slot and then putting the pin back in?

You might be able to make it work. Then make some matching spacer/s to make up the thickness on the pivot point

Today I cut part of my spare key, took the blade out of the flip key and started tracing the areas to cut to make my spare key fit in the slot and be able to be pinned in

you'll have to cut the "ears'' off the lock cylinder also.

Yikes?!?!?!

I don't believe it will work, what Alan said AND I doubt it will fit between the ign ears like qwank said,

Plus, why have a remote key fob that doesn't control anything on the car, it's bulkier than just a old key....
