Default Question please on tires

Ok, maybe this is a dumb question, but will 255 60 15 tires fit on 15x7 AG 1968 rims? And Will these same tires fit on a 15x8 AZ rims? I suppose the tire just expands to fill out the extra inch?

thanks!

That Tire section width is about 10" so it's actually on the wide side to be put on either 7" or 8" wheel,
It would be more happy on a 9" rim...
But I have seen people squeeze some pretty wide tires onto 8" rims, doesn't mean it's safe...

Tell me about it.....the P.O. put 295's on 15 x 8" stock steel rims on the rear....there is nearly 2" of bulge outboard and 2" inboard...but they have a few years of tread left on them for a daily driver...and I won't be doing any "stunt-driving"......LOL

Hi 20,
I believe the 255-60-15 tire became std for the 1980 model year and the std wheel was the 8" wide AZ.
They do a pretty nice job of filling the wheel well.
Regards,
Alan

Don't know about the 15x7 but fits fine on 15x8. I believe the later c-3's had that size as an option

Default Ok and much thanks!

Ok and much thanks for the responses!

I know lots of folks put the 255 60 15's on the 15x8 AZ rim and I like the way the 255 60 15's look. I have that on my 76.

I also have a 68 that I would like to put the 255 60 15's on the 15x7 AG rims which sounds like that should work too for a Sunday afternoon cruiser anyway. Maybe another 1/2" of rubber out on each side? But sounds like I could do worse per Doorgunner, LOL's!

Would a 225/70R15 fit better on a 15x7 AG rim?

It's too late now 20mercury.......fat tires are fun to talk about.....LOL

2 9er 5s...................................

(Ignore the A.D.D. mess on the floor).................................. ......

As you can see, the camber needs a LARGE adjustment when wider tires are installed........

Hi 20,
225 tires are one size wider than the original (215) tire that was std on the 7" wheel in 68 and the 8" wheel each year after that.
The 225 can be mounted on a 7" wheel but fits the 8" wheel well.
Many people who are looking for a slightly wider tire than the original F-70 (215) use the 225 without problems.
Regards,
Alan

Hi ATL,
Those wheels are black powder coated rally wheels.
Without the trim rings and caps they look pretty different.
Regards,
Alan

In this picture, are those jackstands under the spring? That is asking for trouble.

Ah ok, thanks. The previous owner installed some cheap chrome steelies on my C3 which aren't bad, but I don't like that I need to run a ring type spacer in the rear. I've been thinking about searching for some basic cheap black steelies to run street tires on. I like the way yours turned out with the solid black wheels and the raised white letters.

Being a rookie I corrected the mistake before I worked around the car/I did a search on jacking-points....

thanks for the heads-up!
