Default A/C rebuild

My 73 was wrecked and repaired badly before I got her. It was hit right side and I'm guessing when it was repaired was when the a/c system was butchered. The half of evaporator housing that the blower motor is mounted in was damaged and repaired badly, I need that. I have the old A6 compressor, but would like to update to newer pancake style, we're adding headers and I believe that smaller style compressor and brackets will be easier to deal with in mounting. Anyone changed over in this way. Would like to find a system maybe someone ditched for their vintage air or left off all together. My drier is a newer style but no idea what year it came from, same as my evaporator. Anyone else dealt with this kinda mess? Trying to get this handled before we reinstall new engine.

I've never done anything like you're proposing to do but am interested in how it will turn out. What I can suggest is posting in the parts section for the hardware that you want. As you say, many have converted to vintage air or similar systems and should have the whole setup available pretty cheap. Should provide you with a good starting point.
