My last drive of the year I shut the car off the antenna went down then the motor kept running. I disconnected the battery and said night night for the winter. Planning for the spring I figured I'd ask now if this is a big deal or not? The mast is fine, and the motor runs,

Sorry for the spelling error my fat fingers strike again

The mast is raised and lower by a nylon cable, attached to the mast. If the motor runs, but the mast doesn't move, I'd say your cable broke. You can get a new cable and mast for around $40.

To replace the cable. you have to remove the antenna from the car, and open up the antenna motor.

The stock antenna is built better than any of the replacements, so it is worth the well-documented and satisfying DIY effort to replace its broken internal nylon cord - and, replace the old, congealed grease in the gear housing while the 'patient' is opened up on the table. I gave its black plastic antenna housing a shot of silver paint to help keep the heat-soak temps down slightly because of its proximity to the left (driver's side) muffler. Good luck.
