Default What Have You Learned Here?

Curious as to what others have found the most helpful item that they have learned from this fountain of knowledge on this forum?

I`ve learned that I have a sickness.... an obsession, an "unhealthy" relationship with an automobile....
and I`ve also learned how to take this bee-otch apart and put it back together again!

I have learned this:

Learned is the more common past tense and past participle of the verb learn. Learnt is a variant especially common outside North America. In British writing, for instance, it appears about once for every three instances of learned. In the U.S. and Canada, meanwhile, learnt appears only once for approximately every 500 instances of learned, and it’s generally considered colloquial.

Learnt makes perfect sense to us Southern boys here in Alabama.

I've learnt that you should double the time and triple the budget for any project estimates.

I've learned (learnt) a lot of things from this forum, enough that it's hard to pick just one as the 'most helpful'. I suppose it might be that pretty much any problem or question I have has already been faced by someone here before, so it's foolish not to ask for help. I had a question about a potential mod that I've never seen or heard about before, and lo and behold someone here's done it before. That's the kind of breadth of knowledge that I appreciate about this place.

But I've learned other things as well.

I knew when I bought my car that my knowledge of automobiles and mechanics was very limited and quite literally everything was going to be a learning experience for me. Over the last several months I've learned that "very limited" is grossly inaccurate: "barely existent" is more appropriate. I didn't realize just how much I don't know. Anyone else have to go to the Service Manual and AIM just to figure how to to fix their horn? I did.

I've learned that this isn't nearly as hard I thought it would be. The car is incredibly simple compared to my daily driver (2004 Olds. Bravada), and with books like the Service Manual and the AIM I can generally find whatever I need when working on something.

I've learned that my garage isn't big enough and not having heat makes it suck trying to work in the winter.
I've learned that my tool collection is woefully inadequate. I never seem to have the tools I need to fix something. For example, I removed my steering column nut with a tire iron because it was the only tool I have that is the right size I did, however, go buy the proper flare nut wrenches for working on my brakes. I'm may be cheap but I'm not stupid.

Most importantly though, I've learned that this is a lot of fun and I have no plans to stop any time soon!

I've learned that if I don't have the solution/answer to something I'm working on, someone on here does, and will post it.
That is one of the many reasons I frequent this site.

I've learned that with all the knowledge available on the forum there is no excuse anymore to have Bubba fix your car. When I had a '68 in the early 80's I had no clue how to fix a lot of things and probably did a few Bubba fixes. I'm very thankful for all those willing to take time to enlighten me as I encounter the mysteries of C3 repairs.

I've learned that if a new owner comes on the forum, Alan71 will tell them to go buy an AIM and a CSM for the first purchase on their car.

It is the best advice there is! And cheap!!

I'd say the most valuable stuff I've learned is techniques/products to use on fiberglass or SMC repair and painting.
