What is a 72 worth?
I am looking at a running 72 vette that appears "original" and in very good condition. What are they worth understanding they are the last in the line of the chrome front bumpers and limited HP (270) engines due to Govt. emission regs. No pictures yet, but coming. One owner wants to get rid of it for 6500 and I am thinking this is a steal.
Generally speaking, $6.5k is a really low price for any year chrome bumper car, especially if it is in decent condition and does not have frame/birdcage rust issues. If you post some pictures, you will get the opinions of the many knowledgeable Forum members. The car almost sounds too good to be true for that price. If I were you, I'd read the 10 rules for buying a Corvette sticky and inspect the car in person ASAP. If the the car checks out, I'd plunk down the $6500 before he/she changes their mind!

Hi s18,
I agree with AH that when a 72 is being offered for that price there's generally a reason or reasons.
Some pictures will certainly get you some opinions about why the price is $6500 and if it appears that's a good price or a great price (or too much) for the car.
Regards,
Alan

As everyone says, you could have a parts car or a car worth quite a bit more than the asking price or anywhere in-between. We have no idea which.
270 hp.. so its a 454 big block? Do the numbers match? Do not believe anyones word for that. Body repairs, rust, there's so much to look at. A paint job should cost more than the asking price. Tread carefully.
You dont even say if its a coupe or a convertible, which has a dramatic effect on value.
The thing here is, a one-owner car means the seller should be able to answer every question you have with no equivocation. Does he have documents from the purchase?

Update: Waiting on pictures now. The car is located in Wisconsin and I am in Florida. Sent the 10 points to consider when buying a corvette. I will post as soon as I get them (early in week). If it passes preliminary muster, I could use some help from a corvette owner living in Wisconsin to have a look see, then I can make the trip up myself. Thanks for the replies. This forum and it's members have been a life saver for me for quite awhile.
Just make sure this is not a scam. Do not send a deposit for a site unseen car. If you do, use pay pal or something like it so your $$ is ensured. Also, did you talk to the owner over the phone, or all by e-mail? The scammers use e-mail only and have funny ways of stating things. Poor grammar, and want a deposit ASAP. Just be careful.

I think this might be a reasonable price (and not necessarily a steal) for a significant project assuming the engine runs reasonably well and no significant rust issues. And...if you like projects like this, unless it is a BB or collectible, by the time you fix the interior, paint it, fix it all up with your "to do" list, you can easily have 20 in it with your free labor too. And this is not bad, if I did not have a Corvette project, I would go find one, LOL's,
But it is good to remember like others say these are hobbys and not investments.
