"A" is September, and "I" could be 62 or 75.

Thanks gbvete62! The car is a 74, so it looks like it needed a replacement early!

My limited understanding is that if you want a LOF duplicate windshield, it has to be made by Pilkerington. They bought out LOF and have exclusive rights to the LOF logo. Although almost no one recognizes the Pilkerington name, they are the long time major windshield and window glass manufacturer with ownership of many patents. When I last contacted them, it was through a Columbus, Ohio office. This is their office that deals only with windshields and windows older cars. And finally, Pilkerington is now owned by a Japanese company!!!

I bought the replacement windows for my 68 convertible from them. The windows came with LOF logos and were date coded for my May 1968. I had the windows date coded for March, 1968...they date code the windows to your specification. The two date coded windows cost about $650.00

.............Well, OK. The windows are actually for a 1969 Convertible. To put 69 Corvette Convertible windows in a 68, you have to buy a bracket that runs along the bottom of the window to mate it into a 68. The bracket costs $25 a window. Once mounted, no one will know that you have 69 Convertible windows in your 68 Convertible, especially, if the visible markings show a 1968 manufacture date.

In someways, this is kinda fun.

Hi,
I believe other companies can duplicate the LOF logo and date on glass too.
For instance the glass I bought from Auto City Classic in Minnesota has the LOF logo and a date code etched where it typically would have been.
Even though the glass doesn't have the usual mfr information in the lower right hand corner the DOT still requires that the glass source be identifiable.
The information on my windshield is printed on the edge of the glass along the right side a-pillar. It's appears to be on the glass 'edge' not surface.
In the case of my 71 glass the info says LAMINATED AS-1 DOT177 M61 A 1.
Looking at the DOT list shows the glass was manufactured in Mexico (L-N SAFETY GLASS S.A.DE C.V. OF MEXACALI) for a company in Toledo, Ohio.
The AS-1 refers to the transparency of the glass and where the tint (if there is one) transitions to clear.
M61 is the model number (configuration) of the glass.
Regards,
Alan

You can see the info if you look carefully.
